Superficial lesions such as those caused by sun damage (sun spots), age spots, liver spots and freckles can be lightened or removed.
Melanin gives us our skin colour. When there is too much melanin in one area, freckles, age spots, and other minor blemishes can occur. Alexandrite laser is a non invasive treatment which is absorbed by the cells containing the excess pigment, which is then dispersed through the body’s lymphatic system resulting in reduce pigmentation, leaving a more clearer even skin.
What does the laser do to Pigmentation?
The laser works to target areas of excess pigment within the skin and to safely break down the excess melanin to promote clearer skin and is a safe, effective treatment for troublesome pigmentation which can be very hard to disguise with makeup. Laser treatment is one of the most advanced treatments for removing unwanted pigmentation on the skin such as age spots, sun spots, and freckles.
Am I suitable for the treatment?
Treatment is suitable for most clients, except individuals with very tanned or dark skin however; large dark, mottled or raised pigmentation cannot be treated and may need to be checked by a dermatologist. Large dark moles can also not be treated. Pigmented marks that respond the best are superficial lesions such as those caused by sun damage (sun spots) and freckles.
Does the treatment hurt?
Treatment is slightly uncomfortable, like other laser treatments it can be described as ‘the flick of an elastic band’ slight redness of the skin afterwards occurs, this usually fades quickly.
What results can I expect?
Darkening of the lesion will occur and crusting will appear over the area, over 7-14 days this will eventually flake off leaving the pigmentation a lot lighter.
How long does each treatment take?
The length of each treatment will depend on the type and size of the lesion present, but a typically the treatment will take 10 to 30 minutes. Each treatments is carried out once every 4-6 weeks
How many treaments are necessary?
1-4 treatments are recommended for best results. All client results are different; you may need more than recommended. Top-up sessions are performed as required, but typically once/twice a year.
